Horde leveling guide for WoW Forever

Every quest in the zone, in the fewest trips to town.

XPCompass plans each zone so a solo character does all of its quests in an order that keeps the walking short. It shows the next step beside your quest log and points the way on a compass at the top of your screen.

For Windows and Mac. The Horde starting zones are free for everyone.

How a zone is planned

Planned for Forever, one zone at a time

Forever reworked the old zones and added new ones. XPCompass routes are built from Forever's own quests and from play in its beta.

The whole zone

Every quest a Horde character can take in the zone is on the route, or left off for a reason we name. The order is planned so the extra quests add little walking.

Solo by default

Quests that need an elite killed, and the quests that follow them, stay off the route until you turn group quests on. Dungeon quests are never on it.

Starts where you are

It reads your quest log, so it knows what you've done even if you started without it. A quest you missed comes back onto the route when its experience is worth the walk.

Checked in play

When players open an NPC's window, the addon notes where they stood. Confirmed positions replace estimates, so the arrow keeps pointing true as Forever changes.

In the game

Less looking things up, more playing

You Hand-in

A trail on the map, a compass on the screen

The world map and minimap draw a straight trail from you to the next stop, in the colour of what waits there, with chevrons that flow toward it. On a work step every spot where your targets spawn is marked in the same colour.

  • Creatures to fight
  • Things to pick up or use
  • Someone to talk to
  • Back to your body
  • Your own map pin

The compass strip at the top of the screen marks the same target, glows when you face it and shows the distance.

Finding the way

Points across maps

A hand-in inside a capital is placed on the city's map, and the arrow leads you there from the zone.

Back to your corpse first

After a death the compass and arrow lead to your body, then pick the guide up again.

Look ahead

Step forward and back through the guide with the world map open to check the route without playing it.

Danger on the map

The arrow leads around ground held by creatures well above your level.

Less clicking

Quests in and out

Open an NPC and it accepts and hands in the quests the guide covers there. It never picks your reward. Hold Shift to do one by hand.

Item and target buttons

One button uses the current quest's item, another targets the creature the step needs. Both can be bound to keys.

Errands that pay

Repairs, training, new flight paths and the hearthstone come up only when they save time. Grey items sell at any merchant.

Mail for your bank character

Open a mailbox and it sends your bank character the items this one can't use.

Staying strong

Upgrades as they drop

An item that beats what you wear comes up beside the panel with each stat that changes. Equip it, and undo if you change your mind.

A talent for each point

The next point of your class's leveling build is named under the panel. Click to open the talent window.

Drop chances

Tooltips show how often a quest item drops from the creature you're looking at.

Your pace

Experience per hour and the time to your next level sit at the foot of the panel.

The app

One app installs it and keeps it current

The XPCompass app finds your game folder, installs XPCompass and keeps it up to date in the background.

  1. Download the app

For Windows PCs, and Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or newer).

  2. Run it

It finds the game and installs XPCompass. When an update lands, it tells you whether to reload or restart.

  3. Members sign in with Discord

Only Bans members choose Sign in with Discord in the app to get every guide.

The route today

From level 1 to 27 on the Horde side

Each bar is a zone's guides, by the levels a character following the route reaches there. Breaks inside a bar are where one guide hands over to the next.

Questions

Before you install

Is it allowed?

XPCompass is an ordinary addon, using the same interface the game gives every addon. It never moves your character or fights for you. When you open an NPC's window it can accept and hand in the guide's quests, which the game lets any addon do, and you can turn that off. The addon is free and its code is open to read, as Blizzard's addon policy requires.

What does it record, and can I turn that off?

Sharing is on unless you turn it off, so the routes get better from real play. While it's on, the addon notes things like the quests you take and hand in, the experience they pay and where you stood when you talked to someone, and the app sends them to xpcompass.com. Character names, your game account, chat and other players are never recorded.

Turn it off on the addon's options page. The privacy policy lists everything.

Will it slow my game down?

It checks only the step you're on, and only when your quests change. Between steps it does almost nothing.

Is there an Alliance version?

No. XPCompass is for the Horde only.

What about groups and dungeons?

The route is solo. Quests that need an elite killed stay off it unless you turn group quests on in the options. Dungeon quests are never on the route.

How do I join Only Bans?

Only Bans is the Horde guild behind XPCompass. To join, start on the guild's Discord: discord.gg/gXaunYX2bd.

Once you're in, choose Sign in with Discord in the app and the members' guides install on their own.

Start at level 1

Install the app, log in, and the first step is waiting beside your quest log.
