This policy explains what XPCompass (xpcompass.com, the XPCompass app and the XPCompass addons) collects, why, and what you can do about it. In short: we keep as little as we can, we never sell it, and there are no ads, trackers or cookies.
Visiting the site and downloading
You can download the app and the public addons without signing in. Our server doesn't store anything about you for this. Its log records each request's address on the site, the time and whether it worked; not your IP address. The site uses no cookies.
The site reaches you through Cloudflare, which handles your IP address to deliver it (see Cloudflare's privacy policy). Older versions of the app reach the server through Tailscale in the same way.
Signing in with Discord
Signing in is optional, and any Discord account can sign in. It's how Only Bans members get every guide, and how anyone will get what players share back (below). When you sign in, Discord asks you to allow two things: to know who you are, and to read your roles in the Only Bans server. From that we keep:
- your Discord user ID, username and display name;
- your roles in the Only Bans server;
- a Discord token that lets the server re-check those roles about once a day;
- a fingerprint of the app's sign-in token (not the token itself), and when it was issued and expires.
We don't get your email address, your messages, your friends or your other servers. We use these details to decide which addons your account can download, including test builds for testers, and to tell what your app shares apart from what anonymous apps share. The server log notes each sign-in with your Discord user ID and roles.
Your sign-in is deleted when you sign out in the app, or 30 days after the app last refreshed it, whichever comes first. If you leave Only Bans or lose your guild role you stay signed in, without the members-only addons. Everything is kept on the operator's own computer and is not shared with anyone.
The app on your computer
The app keeps your sign-in in Windows Credential Manager or the macOS Keychain, and its settings in files of its own, with a random install ID it makes the first time it runs. It writes to the game's AddOns folder and its own files, and to the game's saved data in two ways, only while the game is closed: it copies an addon's settings to its new name when an addon is renamed, and it removes play data it has already sent. About every 15 minutes it asks xpcompass.com for updates. About once a minute it looks for new play data the game has saved and, with sharing on, sends it (below). It sends nothing else about you or your computer: not your WoW account, realm or character names, and not where files are on your computer.
The addons in the game
The addons keep your progress and settings in the game's saved data on your computer.
Sharing what you play. Sharing is on unless you turn it off, so that the guides get better from real play. While it is on, the base addon notes the quests you are offered, take and hand in and the experience they pay; where you stood when you talked to someone or looted something; the level, type and family of creatures you target; your kills and the experience they paid; what you looted and from what; where a quest's count went up; how long each fight took and how much health and mana it cost; eating, drinking, deaths, what killed you (a creature, a fall and the like, or just "a player") and how long until your health and mana were full again; how long you spent at each vendor, trainer or quest window; flights, Hearthstone use and the zones you enter; when you log in, log out or go away (AFK), and your group's size; and what you wear, your talents and your main stats when they change. Your class, race and level go with it. Character names, your WoW account, chat and other players are never recorded.
Sharing with your guild. XPC - Guild talks only to guildmates who run it, inside the game, never to the server. Once you say yes, it tells them your level, class, the guide step you are on and your map; the size of your bags, what you wear and your professions with their skill; and the recipes you know, from your profession window; and, if you hold dungeon quests for the guild, which ones you hold. Requests you post, offers you make, dungeon quests you ask for and help you confirm (with the guildmate's name) go to the guild as well. Turn it off with /xpcg share off.
Sharing feedback. Feedback is the guide step you were on and how it ended; your level, experience, map position and time on the step; the creatures you killed and your party size; and any note you type into the addon.
The app sends both to xpcompass.com after the game saves them. The server keeps your Discord user ID if you are signed in, otherwise only your app's random install ID; what was sent, exactly as it arrived, for 90 days; and the game facts taken from it, which are checked against what other players send and may be used in the guides and the game data we publish, without anything that says who sent them. Feedback is also sent by in-game whisper to the developer in your guild, when they ask. One switch turns all of it off: /xpc share off, /xpc options, or the app's Options. With sharing off nothing is noted or sent, and you don't get what players share back.
Your choices
- Sign out in the app to delete your sign-in from the server straight away.
- Remove our app under Authorized Apps in Discord's settings to cut off its access to your Discord account.
- Turn sharing off in the addon or the app.
- Ask us what we hold about you, including what your app has shared, or ask us to delete it: email admin@xpcompass.com or message an officer in the Only Bans Discord.
Age
Signing in needs a Discord account, so you must meet Discord's minimum age where you live.
